About Testing a Microphone
A microphone test confirms that your browser can access your microphone and that the device actually picks up sound. The volume meter shows the loudness (RMS level) of the incoming signal, and the waveform shows the raw audio signal in real time. If the meter moves when you speak, your microphone works.
This tool uses the Web Audio API together with getUserMedia. Your browser will ask for permission before the microphone is opened. The audio is analyzed locally on your device - nothing is recorded, stored, or sent to any server. Press Stop (or leave the page) and the microphone is released immediately.
If the meter stays flat, check that the correct input device is selected, that the microphone is not muted in your operating system settings, and that no other application is blocking it. On laptops, also check for a hardware mute switch or function key.
