About Testing a Webcam
A webcam test confirms that your browser can access your camera and shows what the camera actually delivers: the live picture, the capture resolution in pixels, and the measured frame rate (frames per second). A typical webcam delivers 30 fps; lower values can indicate poor lighting (many cameras slow the shutter in the dark) or a busy computer.
This tool uses getUserMedia from the browser's media API. Your browser asks for permission before the camera is opened, and the video never leaves your device - nothing is recorded, stored, or uploaded. The snapshot feature draws a single frame onto a canvas so you can download it as a PNG file. Press Stop (or leave the page) and the camera light goes off because the device is released.
If you see a black picture, check that no other application is using the camera, that the correct camera is selected, and that the camera is not disabled by a privacy shutter or in your operating system's privacy settings.
